5 Methods to Denoise a Video
In today’s world, the quality of digital product such as photos and videos increase day by day, prompting us to create our content crystal clear and keep it that way. Of course, different kinds of effects and filters are great, and something called “noise” is one of them, but sometimes it is actually unwanted and makes our footage less likable. What is noise, or denoising, anyway? Well, instead of clear video, it’s something quite different – the footage looks grainy, sometimes excessively, and makes our eyes hurt, or simply, more difficult to see what’s going on on the screen. And if you didn’t decide to use a noise effect, then from where does it appear?..
Noise means a mix of different variations of brightness or color information in the shot. It is likely to show up when there is a low light, and/or when the video is taken with small sensors such as smartphones and action cameras. It works as follows: if someone tries to compensate for low-light settings with gain and ISO, more noise is produced.
But, as our readers already know, almost nothing is ever impossible to solve. There is a way to get rid of this annoying grain, and it is called, as pretty obvious, denoising. Hence, denoising in image and video production is used as a technique to take footage from grainy to crystal-clear. And, as you may already agree, it improves a viewer’s quality of experience. And how does this happen? - There are varied techniques, and each of them uses different mathematical and statistical models.
What is considered a good noise reduction? The technique is successful when it suppresses noise effectively in uniform regions; preserves edges and other characteristics, such as fine details and textures; and provides a visually natural experience.
and here you will learn 5 ways, as in 5 software to denoise a video. We’ll touch upon the following ones: Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Movavi Video Editor. But, we are not limited to these ones, so maybe there is one more you could use? You’ll find out in the article!
- Final Cut Pro
Noise that appears as unwanted grain or artifacts in the video image can be removed in Final Cut Pro pretty easily, you just have to follow the little steps for it. Keep in mind that Final Cut Pro is not eligible for PC, this editor is only available for Mac (but Windows users, tune in for the editors functioning on PC’s!)
So, you have your grained footage, which you already chose to denoise, and for which you will need a video reduction effect.
First, you will need to open Final Cut Pro and import abovementioned video. Select this clip in the timeline,
and position the play head in a way that the clip appears in the viewer, that is, on the big screen - for you to see well.
Click the Effects button in the top-right corner of the timeline, or, to use the shortcut, press Command & 5.
In the Effects browser, select the Basics category in the list of Video effects on the left, then select the Noise Reduction effect. For 360° clips, select the 360° category, then select the 360° Noise Reduction effect.
And you will need to do one of the following:
Drag the effect to the timeline clip you want to apply it to, or double-click the effect thumbnail to apply the effect to the selected clip.
When the effect is applied, Final Cut Pro analyzes the clip for noise, so you might need to wait for a little while the process is complete and only then see the result.
Interesting tip you can remember is that if you are using several effects to your video clip, then adding Noise Reduction as the first effect would guarantee the best results for you. So, Mac users, you can start denoising your videos in Final Cut Pro now!
- Adobe After Effects
Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application… Pretty intense, right? This very software has endless powers, and one of them is, you guessed correctly – denoising the video! So, how are we going to do that in this monster of the industry?
Sometimes what’s annoying about this kind of programs is that you need plugins, so let’s try to find a way to achieve our desired result without using anything external.
So, first of all (as in all cases!) import your video into After Effects. Then, you will need to find Effect in the menu, and find: Noise and Grain. There, you will choose Remove Grain and click on it.
On the left side of the program layout, the Effects Control will be opened. Now, you see viewing mode, where you need to change Preview to Final Output.
So, this will be the video with Preview checked:
Which will look like this when Final Output is checked:
Somewhat different and looking better, right?..
By the way, you can watch the whole process video here !
- Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Pro is one of the most and sophisticated video editor. So, of course, there is a way to reduce noise in this software as well, and this can be reached using effect called Median.
First of all, you add your footage to the Timeline in Premiere Pro and then go find the Effects Panel, where Median can be found. You need to drag and drop the Median effect to your video clip.
The next step is to make sure that adding the effect to the grainiest parts of the clip, which can be done using masks. So, in the Effects Control panel, you’ll need to select the mask shape for your clip – you can either choose rectangle, circle, or pen tool. With the latter you can move the Mask around the screen and resize it to cover the area.
And if you Change the Feather setting to 100, the effect will not have a very visible edge and some smoothness will cover for it.
You will need to repeat the process with more than one mask, if you would like to have covered all of the grainy area of your shot.
Lastly, you’ll need to adjust the effect settings to reduce the noise.
The Median effect doesn’t actually take away the graininess, it just blurs it. You’ll need to experiment with the Radius settings until you are happy with the result.
- DaVinci Resolve
When it comes to DaVinci Resolve, the process is somewhat different in the free version of it. So, first of all, off course, you add your footage into the timeline. Then, you are going to find the fusion tab underneath the timeline panel.
You will see MediaIn1 and MediaOut1, you click on MediaIn1, which will ensure the scene appears in the first viewer – and MediaOut1 by default is appearing in the second. So, now you stay on MediaIn1, hit shift+spacebar, and find the option which says: Remove Noise (RN) and then click Add, which adds the Remove Noise1 node. On the top right corner you will find Inspector, and if you click on it, you will see all the properties you can modify.
After going only into the second viewer, and in the top bar we can find channel icons. We open it and click on red, which makes the footage black and white for a while. Then, we go back to the Inspector, increase Softness Red and Detail Red.
This removes much grain from the red channel. Then we repeat the same for green, as well as for blue channel. Once you finish, you go to the same channel button in the bar and change it to “back to color”. So, the footage will have its colors back and you will see that it has become clearer, compared to the first viewer.
You can play around with the Chroma and Luma channels in the Inspector, if that is something you have ever had experience with!
- Movavi Video Editor
In Movavi Video Editor, it is pretty straightforward – unlike DaVinci Resolve, of course! So, getting to the point: the first thing you need to do is Entering the Edit Mode. In order to achieve it, you’ll need to click the Edit button next to the file you want to adjust or select Adjustments in the Tools tab.
After this, you will be able to select the Noise removal option, and then, move the Noise level slider to reflect the amount of noise you can see in the preview. The more noise you need to remove, the higher the Noise level, and vice versa.
When you’re finished removing the noise, click Apply, but in case you need to remove noise from several files, select Apply to all files, which ensures the same noise level will be applied on all your files there.
Lastly, of course, Wondershare Filmora X offers the same option as well. The steps are ase follows: You need to go to the Effects panel and type: “Smart Denoise”. Then, right-click on the video and choose Edit Properties.
This will make sure you go inside the Smart Denoise, where you can change opacity of the clip, threshold and radius.
You should reduce Opacity until you are satisfied with the result. Then, you can use the box next to Smart Denoise in order to see the scene before and after noise and grain removal.
So, that’s it! – We learned how to remove/reduce noise and grain from the videos, using several video editors. So you might as well start making your video clips look better right away!

How to Correct Lens Distortion With Filmora
The distortion in your video may irritate you when you’re working on the video’s edit. When you take images or record sound, you frequently end up with distorted results due to lens distortion. In this article, we will discuss what lens distortion is, how it may be fixed, and the factors you need to pay attention to avoid lens distortion when taking or recording videos.
Part 1: Basic introduction to lens distortion
1. What is lens distortion
Distortion means that the straight rectilinear projection is not straight. In the pinhole camera model, lens distortion is measured by how far from the image’s ideal projection is. From a geometric optics point of view, the scene’s straight lines don’t look straight in the image.
When you take a picture, the camera lens can somehow change the shape of the image. It is called camera lens distortion. In simple terms, we can tell you that this is the case because distortion in-camera is when the lens makes curved lines in an image and doesn’t show the straight lines from the scene.
2. What cause it
Lens distortion happens with all lenses. It is because of several things, such as how the lens is curved, how far away the subject is, and the angle at which the photo was taken. Furthermore, it changes the image in many ways, but you can see it most when straight lines at the frame’s edges are no longer parallel.
Most geometric lens distortions happen when the focal distance is short (barrel distortion), long (pincushion distortion), or when a fish-eye lens is used to take a picture from a low angle (keystone distortion).
Part 2: How to correct a distorted lens?
A lot of times, with lower-end wide-angle lenses, especially action cams like GoPro, you get pretty gnarly distortion when you’re filming. As we know, the Earth is round, but it shouldn’t look like this when you take a picture. Indeed, it’s very distorted, it has the horizon line bending all over the place, and basically, all of the lines in the video have some level of curvature.
Hence, follow all the steps below to know how to fix it:
Step1 Import your video to Filmora .

Free Download For macOS 10.14 or later
Step2 Click on the clip and head over to the lens correction. Choose the “Camera model” based on what you used, but in this tutorial, the video was taken with a GoPro Hero 7. However, you can choose some other camera model options there.
Step3 To adjust the distortion, you can slide the bar to the left or the right. If you slide the bar to the right (maximum level), there will be no adjustment. However, if you slide the bar to the left, you can see it pulling those lines as high up as possible.
You can see a bit of curvature, but it looks much more natural, and all of the lines in the video look so much better.
Step4 Lastly, if you play the video back, you will see the video look much better than before.
Part 3: How to avoid distorted lens while shooting?
1. Avoid very wide-angle lenses
The more distortion there is in a lens, like a 15mm prime, the wider it is. Sometimes you need a very wide-angle lens, and distortion is unavoidable. If you have room to move back, you could try using a lens with a different focal length.
2. Avoid getting too close
Doing so will enhance optical distortion in many lenses and the likelihood of perspective distortion in all lenses.
3. Be mindful of your composition
There are numerous instances where distortion is acceptable or even intended. Others must be carefully examined, such as utilizing a wide-angle lens to photograph a row of people. When you get too close to a group, the distortion makes the people at each end appear considerably wider! Therefore, consider your composition. Stand back and add space around your group; if necessary, you can trim the image afterward.
4. Use a 50mm lens
50mm lenses are often called “all-purpose” lenses. There is a good reason
for this. A 50mm lens is great for portraits, street photography, and many other kinds of photography, including architecture. If your subject is big, you just need space to stand back. You will see that a 50mm lens rarely distorts the image.

How To Make Flying Objects in Wondershare Filmora
Let us be honest here, you want to create fly objects in the air but don’t want to get into the witchcraft school. In that case, we have got your back!
In this article, you can learn how to make objects fly in the air! Technically you will not do that in real-time, but with the latest technology and editing tools at your disposal, you will exactly do that.
Use Wondershare Filmora to create the flying object effect. Scroll below to get the guide to the whole process of creation.
Part 1. What will you need to make a flying object?
This is not witchcraft, so we will abstain from using potions and herbs. Instead, to fly objects in our videos, we will use simple techniques that you may also be familiar with.
Video Cameras
The camera, in this scenario, will be the essential accessory as it will capture your video with the proper aspect ratio. This video camera can now be from a mobile phone or a high-quality DSLR. It will all depend upon your preference for quality and frame rate.
Tri-Pod or camera stands
Selecting the Tri-Pod is also crucial to your quality of video taking as it will ensure stability while capturing the video from the camera.
Stability is the key here, as the captured videos will be masked and combined in the later stages of the steps. To do so, consistently capturing the video in the same ratio is necessary. You can stabilize the video with a simple gorilla pod that you can get of good quality or a simple tripod.
The prop
The prop will be the object that we will be flying in the video. It could be a fluffy toy, a ball, a box, or anything you desire to be flying in your video.
Note: In this article, we are going to use a ball as a prop.
Wondershare Filmora
Now that we have all the physical requirements for the video, our next goal is to ensure that we have the correct video editing software. And what’s best than Wondershare Filmora? Obviously, there’s nothing!
Filmora allows you to edit your videos with ease and comfort. With its interactive UI, even a beginner feels easy to edit a video. With skills on hand, an expert can edit videos ranging from green screen effects to flying objects.

Good presentation
Now, if you want your video to shine like the good ones, you will need to know how to present it. In this section, the requirement will be yourself. As you are not flying an object, you must act the part.
A good presentation will allow you to make the video more natural. Because no matter how skilled you are with video editing, a video with props will only be of quality until the subject acts their part with quality.
Part 2. How to capture the footage?
Before we get into how we edit our footage, we need to know how to shoot the video to edit. Follow the steps mentioned below:
- Set up your camera on a tripod or a gorilla pod.
- After setting up the camera, record an empty frame.
Note: An empty frame video will be the one you will use to mask the original clip.
Reference video
Start recording a five-second clip of the sofa where you will be sitting without yourself or the prop. Here you don’t need to add anything except the reference. Follow the guidelines below when making the reference video:
- The video should be plain.
- It should be simple.
- There should be no moving object or subject.
Main video
After shooting the empty frame video, move on to shooting the video with yourself in it. Follow the below to achieve something unique:
- Your focus should be on the prop.
- Use a thread or a rope to attach the prop to it. (In this case, we are using a ball.)
- Attach the ball to the thread and hand it on the roof.
- Record yourself now with the prop with your desired content or script.
After completing the video, simply stop recording. Now you will end up with two video clips.
Adding these two clips in the Wondershare Filmora , you can easily create the flying object effect. To do so, follow the steps explained in the section ahead.
Part 3. Stepwise guide to making flying objects in Wondershare Filmora
Now that we have looked into our requirements, let us dive into how we will apply our skills to achieve an object to fly in Wondershare Filmora .
Of course, without the software, our editing will not be possible, so download Wondershare Filmora from the steps explained below.

Step1Open the Wondershare Filmora software
- Open the Wondershare Filmora software and Click on the New Project icon on the window.
- After you have clicked on the New Project icon, our main workplace will be launched.
- Here you can see various options.
- To get started, we need to import our video clips to edit them.
- Here, you can see two ways to import your clips in Wondershare Filmora.
- Shows you how to import by Right-Clicking on File and selecting the import media option.
- Shows you to drag and drop the file from your main directory simply.
You can choose whatever suits you the best!
Step2Add your clips to your timeline
Now that we have imported our videos into the timeline, our next step will be to add our videos to the timeline.
- Simply click on the imported clips on the import window.
- Then drag it to the timeline below.
- Doing so will create a working timeline you can view and edit as you go along the editing process.
Step3Size the reference video to the original video
Now, remember that we recorded a five-second clip that we will use to create the masking effect. You will need to size it to the original video for that to work. Doing so is simple and will require you to take some easy steps.
- First, click on the clip.
- Then, when it is selected, move on to the tab above to choose the speed option from the bar.
- Here, you will also see options such as cropping, Green screen, and color.
- Choose the option of speed.
- Then, a drop-down tile will pop up. Here you can see different options available to speed up your video.
- You can speed up your video and slow it down.
- For now, we will have to slow it down.
Note: Slowing it down will increase the time of the video clip and allow you to match it with the original video clip.
Don’t worry about the speed, as the video is already empty, and there will be no distractions to disturb our editing.
Step4Add the masking effect
Now that we have our video aligned with the reference video we are using. Let’s move to the next step.
This step will try to remove the thread attached to the ball; otherwise, it will show in the video, and our effect will be ruined. However, before we do that, we will need to know what masking is.
What is the Masking effect in Wondershare Filmora?
Have you ever seen the behind-the-scenes of those big-budget movies? Then you might have seen the actors and the stunt workers hanging from big ropes performing stunts in front of green screens.
Well, the directors capture the video in real-time. But they can do those big stunts on TV with editing and CGI, and one of the effects is “Masking.”
The masking effect allows you to mask the object on the screen with a reference video. So that’s how the ropes attached to the stuntmen get removed in the original videos.
How to add a masking effect?
Although there are numerous ways to do that, the one we will use in this video is to remove the thread. For this, follow the below steps:
- Simply go to the effect icon that you can see in the bar above.
- In the effects bar, move to the utility tab.
- You will see a window showing you the many effects Wondershare Filmora provides you from default.
- Select the shape mask tile.
- Now drag and drop it on the timeline below.
Note: You must ensure the effect is applied to the main video, not the reference video.
- When you drag the effect into the main video, you will notice a transparent shape added to the video. This is your Mask.
Step5Edit the masking effect
You must hide the thread attached to the ball with the masking effect. To do this, follow the below guidelines:
- Double-click on the effect added to the main video.
- You will notice another window pop up on the import library.
Note: In the pop-up window, you will see the multiple options and edits you can apply to the masking effect, such as Transform, Compositing, Motion tracking, and stabilization.
- Scroll down on the window and notice a video effect tab.
In the effect tab, you will have multiple options, such as the shape mask, X, Y, and scale and blur strength options, as shown below.
- Now adjust the mask to hide the string. It may be easy to invert the mask.
Note: That the borders of the mask are blurred. But you can also change them by inverting the mask, which turns the borders and the space between them.
Remember the invisibility cloak from Harry Potter? It works just like that, only with a solid shape.
- Now use the X and Y options to move the mask anywhere in the video.
Step6Hide the sharp borders
You may notice the shape of borders that do not blend with the background. To blend the borders with the background, follow the steps below:
- Simply Double-click on the effect in the timeline.
- Then, in the editing tab, find out the blur strength option.
- Simply drag the bar to increase the blur strength.
Note: Please keep looking in the window on the right. Check and increase the blur strength until you are satisfied with the result.
- Lastly, click on OK when you are done.
Step7Creating the popup effect
Now, if you want your object to appear out of thin air, you must create that pop-up effect. You can create the pop-up effect in simple and easy steps, as shown below:
- First, drag the timeline dragger to the point where you want the prop or the ball to pop up.
Your presentation should be accurate and precise!
Imagine you were doing a “swoosh“ action, similar to swinging a wand. Now you want your object to appear at that time.
Split the Video:
- Drag the timeline dragger to that point.
- Now press Ctrl+B to split both videos.
Add Popup Effect:
The masking effect will be applied from the start. Our goal is to hide the masking effect before the ball pop-ups. For this, follow the below steps:
- Go into the setting by Double-Clicking the masking effect on the original video.
- Then move the mask over the ball instead of on the thread. Doing so would make the ball disappear.
Final Results:
- Lastly, click on Ok when done.
Play the clip from the start, and you will notice the ball popping up according to your action.
Congratulations! You did it. You are now able to fly objects with the power of your mind.
Following the abovementioned steps, you can control objects and make them fly in the air. The catch is that you will have to use Wondershare Filmora . But, of course, this is not a witchcraft school now.

This is the Wondershare Filmora , one of the best video editors in the market. Before we look at how you can use Filmora to create the perfect gold metal texture on your text, let’s first look at some of its main features;
- You can use Filmora to edit videos at a very high resolution including 4K videos
- It can be used to remove the background and noise from the video very easily
- You can edit both video and audio in the same project
- Up to 5 text tracks and 10 music tracks can be added to the same timeline and the same project
- It is very easy to use with a simple and intuitive user interface
Here’s how to use Filmora to create a gold metal texture for your text;
Step1Install Wondershare Filmora on your Computer
Download the Filmora setup file to your computer and double-click on it to start installing the program to your computer.
Open the program once the installation is complete.
Step2Create a New Project
If you are starting from the beginning, you may need to create a new project.
To do that, click on “File > New Project” in the menu bar to start a new project.
If there was a project that you were already working on, click on “Open Project” on the main window and then click “File > Open Project” or “File > Open Recent” in the menu bar.
Step3Add A Title to the Timeline
To add a gold texture effect to a title on your video, we will first of all need to add a title to the project.
To do that, go click on the “Titles” tab at the top and drag one of the default titles to the timeline.
Once it is in the timeline, double-click on the title and edit it. Type in anything you want to appear in the title.
Select the font that you want to use and choose a specific font size to use. These are all your preferences and will depend on your project.
Move the title to the second track in the timeline as you get ready to begin adding the colors.
Step4Start Adding Colors
Go to “Media” at the top and click on “Sample Colors.” Drag the black color image to the track directly below the title timeline.
Then take a snapshot of this newly created image by clicking on the “camera” icon next to the playhead.
Change the Font of the Title to something else more elegant like “Montez” and take another snapshot by clicking on the same camera icon.
Step5Add the Gold Effect
Delete everything from the timeline. Don’t worry you took a photo of all the text layers and the effects added to each.
You will then need to find an image of a gold background. You can find these on any good background image site. Download a good clear image and upload it into Filmora.
Now drag and drop the gold background image to the second track in the timeline. Double click on the background image.
Select “Compositing” and then in the “Blending Mode” drop-down menu, choose “Darken.” Click OK.”
Hide the first layer in the timeline and select the gold background image layer. Click on “Animation” and then select “Customize.”
To create the customized effect that we need, click on the image and drag it from the right to the left side.
Move the playhead to the end of the image to insert another keyframe and then click on the restore icon to restore the size of the image.
Click “OK” and show the track above the timeline. You will now see that the gold texture effect has been applied to your title. You can also add the second snapshot with the varying font for further effect.
Step6Save the Project
Once you are done, you can go ahead and save the project or continue working on other aspects of the video as desired.
